Cost of Living
LBS annual VC & PE Club Conference.
- with roommates: € 300-400
- without roommates: € 450-800
- maid: € 10 per hour (she will do your laundry - this is gold during exam weeks)
- food: € 20-30 per day unless you have a roommate / spouse who cooks for you. I suggest you buy stock in Just-Eat.es before you arrive (yes, they deliver to IE)
- internet € 45 per month
- mobile with Movistar (the best service coverage in Madrid) € 12.50 or € 35 per month
- Madrid bicycle: annual fee of € 25 then 0.50 cents per so many minutes of use.
- Madrid metro: unless you use the transportation every day, don't buy a € 50 monthly metro pass... just get the 10 trip ticket to use if / when you travel around the city on weekends (something you won't do during term 1 and 2).
LBS annual VC & PE Club Conference.
- If you want to do anything with either of these industries, this event is a MUST GO. I met the queen of Silicon Roundabout at this event. Everyone who is anyone in the european startup world will be here. Do not miss this.
- Tickets are about 80 pounds
- Flight if booked 1-3 months out can cost less than € 200
- Stay at the Hotel Strand Continental (5 minute walk from the event) for € 100 for 3 nights
- Food: €50 - 60 per day
- Book your flight the first week of January for less than € 100 here.
- Package € 350
- Transportation to and from the event € 50-ish
- Budget out another € 100 for drinks at the parties (if you are a light / moderate drinker)
- € 10 to € 30 per event, average out € 25 per week for these events, as each club has a different event each week.
- if you decide to take a taxi there, add an average of € 10 per event (assuming you share a cab with friends).
- the few times I went out with friends in terms 1 & 2 I would easily blow € 70 in just a few hours & I was one of the modest 1-2 drinks-per-club-type people.
- This will totally depend on the group you are traveling with. I spent 9 days in Istanbul with one group and we spent less than € 1500 including flights and a decent hotel, another group of my classmates took a weekend trip north that cost them € 1000 per person just for the rental cars and house alone.
- Ideally, I would budget out to travel roughly once per month for about € 500 - € 1000.
- Definitely check out The Pel Place just northwest of IE. You'll find in Madrid that there are two types of liquor, the high quality one that will not give you a hangover and the low quality one that tastes like gasoline and will leave you with the worst headache of your life. The Pel Place is one of the few that has high quality liquor and a calm, relaxing atmosphere. If you're looking for a spot to relax and enjoy a drink with a few friends this is it.
- Platea - same quality liquor as the Pel Place but packed with a bunch of restaurants, good spot if you're wanting to go out to eat with your class section since everyone has different tastes and food restrictions.
- Callejon - for whatever reason this is the spot that all IE IMBAs love to take over for a night out dancing.
- Le Boutique - dance the night away here on Thursdays.
- Arts & Eccola are also quite popular amongst IE peeps, although I prefer Le Boutique out of the four clubs.
