Several months ago I was contemplating moving to the opposite side of the world. A few weeks before my scheduled flight, I published my interest in employment on a website, including fields of interest and specific locations.Within a week I had several e-mails in my personal inbox, all concerning well paying positions which were currently open & I fit the requirements for.
The location? LA. The website? LinkedIn. While some people view LinkedIn as "yet another time killing networking site" I believe that it is one of the most worth while tools currently available to the general public via the world wide web.
If you are like many of my friends, you have not looked at your LinkedIn profile within the past month; they view it as the "looming monster under the bed", of the adult world. If you are in this same boat I would like to provide you with the best metaphorical flash light that I have found, to drown your fears:
1. Spend a minimum of 5 minutes per day on LinkedIn either
2. Follow this checklist: http://www.extension.harvard.edu/hub/blog/extension-blog/optimizing-your-linkedin-profile-checklist and do not over look the active links referenced throughout the list.
3. Listen to this advice: http://www.forbes.com/sites/dailymuse/2012/08/14/does-your-linkedin-headline-suck/
